Coach Steve
NOTE: CHANGE IN FALL PARENT MEETING TO WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29TH AT 6:30 PM The Stewards Foundation would like to announce the start of our Fall, 2018 High School season!! This is a 10 week season that focuses on the continued skills development of our existing athletes with a heavier focus on strength and conditioning, along with greater concentration on boat skills for the less experienced or new student athletes. The season will kick off for all of our athletes, with a couple of "Learn to Row" sessions designed to introduce our great sport to new recruits. These are scheduled for Friday, August 24th at 4 PM and Saturday, August 25th at 8 AM. These sessions are great ways to increase team participation, which in the end, makes for a bigger, stronger, more competitive team! We ask that all of our existing athletes and their parents support this effort by "spreading the word" through whatever means you feel appropriate to get the word out. We will have a Parent Information Meeting on Wednesday, August 29th at 6:30 PM, at the boathouse, where we lay out the calendar for the season and answer questions regarding the program. Due to feedback from the families last year, we maintained the 5 day per week training schedule by changing the day off from Wednesday to Friday. We have heard from some parents about the new start and end times that started this semester and will discuss how that effects our training schedule. The blue High School button on the lower right hand side of this page enables the registration process through regatta Central. There are additional waivers and registrations that are necessary due to the Regattas that we compete in that will be discussed during the parents meeting. We are offering a 5% discount to those families that register and pay in full by Wednesday, August 15th. This refund will be in the form of check mailed directly to the registered members address. Below is the letter that was sent to our e-mail distribution members earlier from Coach Tom Feaster with some important information regarding the addition of some new leadership along with details about planned regatta scheduling. We did get some final dates from the FSRA meetings that we will share. Both Coach Steve and I have enjoyed working with all of you as interim head coaches during the Spring Season. Notwithstanding, we have performed a national search and found our new Head Coach and Assistant Coach that we have both known and respected for a long time. Both of these coaches are committed to taking The Stewards Foundation to the next level competitively with an emphasis on Safe Sport. These coaches are highly experienced and hold special coaching credentials certified by The United States Rowing Association. Our new Head Coach is a long term friend of The Stewards who we have been recruiting for several years. He is Coach Haney who will be moving from The Atlantic City area at the end of this month. Many of you may have already met Coach Haney. Coach served as a guest coach for The Stewards last year for the PWC Corporate training event in Tampa and this summer hosted our Club National team in New Jersey. Coach Haney in addition to his wealth of coaching experience is a proven administrator having served and subsequently retired as a Battalion Chief for The Atlantic City Fire Department. Coach Courtney Schleifer is a former UCF scholarship athlete who was a stalwart rower for our Stewards program prior to attending UCF. She has been a Rowing Coach at North Orlando Rowing for the past three years. Coach Courtney and I will be attending the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association annual coaches meeting tomorrow in Jacksonville. At that meeting in addition to the legislative agenda, Regattas will be announced as well as a new agenda item regarding building middle school programs. Courtney has much experience in this area. Our Fall season will commence with Learn-to- Row days for new athletes on Friday 8-24 at 4:PM and Saturday 8-25 at 8:AM. It is imperative that all TRIDENTS make a concerted effort to invite your friends and classmates to these free sessions. All you are asking of them is to give our sport a try. Parents, You are all invited to attend our fall meeting on 8-25 at the boathouse to update all of you on our plans for the fall season. This includes Regattas which will be confirmed at The USRA meeting tomorrow. Our tentative plans include The Gator Head, Head of The Pass and Halloween Regatta. Also certain athletes based on performance will be invited to attend The Head of The Hooch and The prestigious Head of The Schuylkill in Philadelphia. All of your coaches are aligned on the focus of improving the strength and conditioning of our experienced rowers while spending considerable time teaching our new rowers the technique and art of our sport. These new athletes are our future.
