]]>It's not often that city officials have anything good to say about graffiti, but standing along the west bank of the Hillsborough River on Saturday morning, Mayor Bob Buckhorn didn't slam the guerrilla art.
He praised it — at least the college logos painted on seawalls along this stretch of the river by rowing crews that come here every winter to train.
"The only problem?" the mayor asked. He pointed to a graffito on the wall on the Riverwalk by Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. "The Penn State logo isn't big enough," he said.
No worries.
Buckhorn said that rowing wasn't huge at his alma mater.
But it has been in Tampa for more than a century. And that is what brought the mayor, his entourage and scores of rowers, their families, friends, and curious onlookers to Plant Park at the University of Tampa.

]]>Tampa will welcome the Roosevelt Rowing Regatta.

The Hillsborough River doesn't usually get confused for the Thames - or even the Charles River in Boston, for that matter.
But that could change on Saturday when the river becomes the site of the Roosevelt Rowing Regatta.
Ken Walters, a Tampa socialite and party promoter, and Tom Feaster, president of the Stewards Foundation nonprofit rowing group, have teamed up to organize the area's first rowing regatta.
The event is modeled after the Head Of The Charles Regatta and the Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames in England - twolongstanding rowing events that attract thousands of competitors and spectators every year.

]]>Selections were held for the Adaptive Rowing LTA4+ at the Camden County Boathouse in NJ July, 18, 2009. 10 athletes were vying for 5 spots on the roster.
The selected boat will be going to Poznan, Poland at the end of August to compete at the World Championships.
Eric McDaniel, receiving therapy at The VA Hospital in Tampa as part of the Para Olympic Military program. was chosen as a member of the National Adaptive Rowing team to represent the United States in Poland this summer. He has been receiving his training in rowing in Tampa through The Stewards Foundation, Inc.
The complete list of athletes representing the US in Poland will be Cox Tim Edsell (Melbourne, FL), Andrew Johnson (Riverside, CT), Eric McDaniel (Wikki Wakki, FL), Emma Preuschl (Indianapolis, IN), Jennifer Klapper (Philadelphia, PA). Emma is a returning Paralympic Silver Medalist.
According to Tom Feaster, The Southeast Representative of the United States Rowing Association, Adaptive Rowing is a Para Olympic sport. It is a great accomplishment for Rowing in the Southeast that two of these five adaptive athletes representing the United States at the World Championships will be from the state of Florida.
]]>"After recently hosting the 2010 US Rowing Annual Convention in December at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina, the Stewards Foundation of Tampa Bay turns its attention to welcoming more than 20 colleges and universities for winter and spring training.
Several rowing teams have already concluded their training in Tampa, such as the University of Michigan, Indiana University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, University of Louisville, University of Iowa, Rutgers University, Loyola University Maryland, the College of William & Mary, and Drake University.
Over the next month the US National Adaptive Team, Ontario Canoe/Kayak Team, University of Michigan, and the Emma Willard School will commence their training."
